Roseola (Sixth Disease)


Roseola, caused primarily by Human Herpesvirus 6 (HHV-6), commonly affects children aged between 6 months and 2 years.
Timeline
- Incubation Period: 9–10 days
- Illness duration: Typically up to 5 days
Clinical Features
- Symptoms:
- Sudden onset of high fever lasting several days
- Fever subsides abruptly, followed immediately by a macular rash
- Rash:
- Begins on the trunk, spreading to the legs and neck
- Non-itchy, lasts 1–3 days
Complications
- Febrile convulsions due to rapid fever onset
Treatment
- Regular use of antipyretics for symptomatic relief
